A new book fair for South Africa is a-brewing in Joburg. It’s called BookEx, it will run from the 26 to the 28th of November at the Sandton Convention Centre. BookEx, the brainchild of Mohan Kanjee of Joburg’s legendary Estoril books shop chain, will also feature a crime writing festival, “CrimeWrite”, currently in development over at Mike Nicol’s Crime Beat lab, plus a lively programme of author events. From the BookEx organisers: "Our aim is to create a hub of book shopping ahead of the summer holidays and Christmas together with author participation – we will be hosting a two day Crime Writer's Fest "CrimeWrite" within BookEx that has been developed by Mike Nicol , Margie Oxford and a number of other crime writers. We are now working on developing a platform to promote World Aids Day and any other genre specific promotions to make BookEx a valuable destination for the public. We will have a large children’s section with professional child minders with activities such as storytelling, face painting and colouring in etc to give parents a relaxing shopping experience". Local independent authors are also welcome to participate and promote themselves and their work. Estoril Books will be responsible for the purchasing of books form the publishers and all book sales at BookEx will be centrally maintained by qualified staff. We will be providing shopping trolleys so that customers can shop at leisure and pay for their purchases on exit.
